JCM Seminar in Republic of Maldives

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Maldives jointly organized “Seminar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in Republic of Maldives – Accelerating Low Carbon Development through JCM Financing Scheme -” on 11 July 2019 in Male, Maldives.

 

In this seminar, H.E Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, Minister of Environment, Republic of Maldives and H.E Ms. Keiko Yanai, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Maldives gave opening remarks, then government officials from both countries shared the progress of the JCM, and Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) explained overall figures of JCM as well as JCM Financing Programme, followed by Asian Development Bank (ADB), which introduced Japan Fund for the JCM. Further, Pacific Consultants showed tips for successful implementation of JCM Financing Programme, and a participant company of JCM Model Projects in Maldives presented the achievements of their renewable energy projects.

 

In the seminar, more than 40 people from government and 10 private companies that were interested in the JCM participated and had active discussion. After the seminar, MOEJ, GEC, ADB and Pacific Consultants had consultation with local private companies to answer questions related to JCM and Financing Programme. These discussions are expected to lead to specific projects in the future.
