Carbon Market Express is providing several reports of side events related to market mechanisms held at 50th Session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC (SB50) in June 2019.

 

1) CDM for ambitious climate policy [UNFCCC (CDM EB)]
Topics: Activities in Colombia and Senegal, “The Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG)” by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Pilot Auction Facility (PAF) by World Bank, and the Doha Amendment of Kyoto Protocol.

 

2) Considering the adoption of carbon pricing to meet Paris Goals: Experience and way forward [UNFCCC]
Topics: Activities in ASEAN, Pakistan, Quebec, Senegal and Latin America with “The Collaborative Instruments for Ambitious Climate Action (CI-ACA) Initiative” by UNFCCC.

 

3) Article 6 negotiations: technical analysis of key issues for markets [OECD]
Topics: Introduction of a report by OECD CCXG: Article 6.2 accounting methods, use of ITMOs from outside of NDCs and the potential transition of activities and units from the CDM to the Article 6.4 mechanism.

 

4) East African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance [UNFCCC, GIZ]
Topics: Launch of “East African alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance” comprised of Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, introduction of “West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance”.
