JCM Seminar in Republic of Palau

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Industries & Commerce, Republic of Palau jointly organized “Seminar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in Republic of Palau – Accelerating Low Carbon Development through JCM Financing Scheme -” on 12 November 2019 in Koror, Palau.

 

In this seminar, Mr. Takeshi Ogino, Chargés d’affaires ad interim of Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Palau gave opening remarks, then government officials from Palau shared the progress of the JCM. Then Pacific Consultants explained overall figures of JCM as well as JCM Financing Programme, tips for successful implementation of JCM Financing Programme and “JCM Gobal Match” of JCM business matching site, farther, the participant companies of JCM Model Projects in Palau presented the achievements of their solar PV projects. At the end of the seminar, H.E. Charles I. Obichang, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Industries & Commerce, gave closing address.

 

In the seminar, nearly 30 people, including 10 private companies and government officials that were interested in the JCM participated. There was an active discussion regarding the MRV method, the amount of CO2 emission reductions achieved under the JCM so far and benefits of local private companies using the JCM financing programme. between the presenters and participants including Sharp Energy Solutions Co., Ltd., which already has a JCM Model project in Palau.

 

After the seminar, Pacific Consultants had consultation with local private companies to answer questions related to JCM and Financing Programme. These discussions are expected to lead to specific projects in the future.
