JCM Seminar in Kenya

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Republic of Kenya jointly organized “Seminar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Kenya – Accelerating Climate Action & Sustainable Development through the JCM Financial Scheme” on 28 January 2020 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The seminar was generously supported by the Embassy of Japan in Kenya.

 

In this seminar, Mr. Yasuhisa Kitagawa, Chargés d’affaires ad interim of Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kenya and Mr. Peter Omeny gave opening remarks. Then MOEJ explained an overview of the JCM, and Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) explained the Financing Programme for JCM model projects and a JCM business matching site “JCM Global Match.” Furthermore, Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co., Ltd. (JCM Secretariat (Japanese side) ) explained the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)‘s Cooperation for GHG Emission Reduction. Finally, PACIFIC CONSULTANTS (PCKK) shared tips for successful formation of JCM projects.

 

The seminar was attended by nearly 40 people including those from private companies and government. A lively question and answer session was held on the benefits and application conditions of private companies utilizing the JCM model project. In addition, after the seminar, individual consultations were conducted by organization presented at the seminar. Local companies were very interested in the JCM and consulted those organization even after the scheduled time. These discussions are expected to lead to actual projects in the future.
