The 3rd Joint Committee of the JCM between Lao PDR and Japan was held in Vientiane on 31st July.

 

The Joint Committee has a role to discuss important issues and items regarding JCM project development. In this opportunity, registration of a new JCM project has been approved.

 

Furthermore, progress of the REDD+ project in Luang Prabang Province related to slash-and-burn controlling which was introduced in a previous article of this website, has been reported in the Committee. The project is promoting agricultural technology transfer through technical trainings for local farmers. Specifically, use of compost increased productivity of upland rice. It was also reported that slash-and-burn areas have decreased more than 25% and household income has more than doubled compared to before the project.
